My name’s Josiah and my passion for learning all I could about reptiles began when I was a toddler! Having grown up in Samford Valley, I’ve encountered countless reptiles. I made it my ambition to learn all I could about each and every one I met. I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned at your event!
I obtained my exhibitors license at age 18, making me one of the youngest presenters in South East Queensland. I have years of experience working with various reptiles in specialised pet stores, owning reptiles whilst discovering them in my own backyard in Samford Valley. I'm currently studying Animal Ecology at University of Sunshine Coast to help broaden my knowledge of our beautiful Australian reptiles.

Our aim is to inspire awe and an understanding of reptiles while celebrating their beauty. Our goal is to educate on reptile awareness, particularly snakes in a fun and interactive way that leaves audiences excited to learn more.
Touching or holding a python can be a very therapeutic experience. I spent much of my childhood mixing with all different age groups, from helping out with much younger cousins to reciting poetry at an aged care facility… I can talk to anyone! To date, I've taken my shows to the following places:
Birthday Parties - People of all ages can benefit from a reptile show, especially children. Because we are relatively new to the business of exhibiting, we only carry a few reptiles, this keeps our cost low and very affordable for families of any size. If your child has a keen interest in reptiles, you can keep their next birthday memorable without breaking the budget. My shows can be tweaked to suit all ages!
Educational Facilities-
Kindergartens, & Day Care Centres: Children between ages 3 - 5 can truly benefit from learning what to do if you encounter a snake in the wild. They will learn not to be fearful of our pythons whilst provided awareness on snake safety. To keep very young children engaged I like to get them up and moving as we re-enact 'what to do......' Children in this age bracket receive the opportunity to learn what is a reptile and what do they feel like.
How does the ‘Reptiles Edge Educational’ approach reflect your centres structure for learning and development? Upon perusal of the Early Learning Framework, we discovered that much of the content from our shows can be mapped to the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines. When you book with Reptiles Edge, you will receive a handy document, which acts as a resource to help you record the details from our visit!
Before and After School Care: Primary school aged students are at a perfect age to learn about reptiles and amphibians. The subject of geography is dove-tailed into my shows as we get out the distribution maps to learn exactly what lives where in Australia.
Disability Support Centres: Children and adults with disabilities discover my shows to be a wonderful experience. Personally, I find exhibiting to this audience very rewarding. It is a blessing for me to receive such opportunities.
Aged Care Facilities: Residents of aged care facilities will have the opportunity to get up close, touch, feel and even handle some of the pythons. They may have a childhood story to tell about a snake they encountered! We use this opportunity to reinvigorate memories of old. A poetry recital may be requested ;)
I can also come to annual events, school fetes, show days, libraries and shopping centres.
Snakes are not that Scary! I aim to inform children of certain dangers that snakes present, but not to be fearful of the ones we exhibit.
‘What to do if you see a snake in the wild’ is usually included in my talks.
I have all the pre-requisites to meet the criteria required to exhibit my reptiles to the public.
This includes:
Blue Card
Wildlife Exhibitors Licence
Recreational Wildlife Licence
Public Liability Insurance – via Shield Insurance
Education: Bachelor Science Animal Ecology (currently studying)
Business Name registered with ASIC
Members Wildlife Exhibitors Network
Not only did I take special care in choosing gentle, easily handled pythons for my shows but I also selected pythons which came from very different parts of Australia. This is so I can teach kids a little bit of geography in a fun and interactive way!
I bring the following reptiles to my shows:
Murray Darling Carpet Python (from the Murray Darling Basin)
Stimson's Python (from Australia's desert lands, Northern Territory and stretching across the top of Australia)
Jungle Python (from the rainforest in North Queensland)
Black-headed Python (from Queensland's north-western areas and across to the Northern Territory)
Ridge-tailed monitor (from the top half of Western Australia, stretching into the Northern Territory)
